Family Traditions Cafe in Cookeville

It is a very cute little cafe with a friendly staff. The waitress was very kind and she went out of her way to make sure everything was in order for our food. The other members of the staff were effecient and nice as well. The food isn't too expensive either, and it tastes great for the price. I definitely recommend stopping by and grabbing a plate of breakfast.

Wonderful home cooked style breakfast. Taste of southern traditional fair. Converted fast food building into family dining. Quick and absolutely worth while food. Traveling by or in the area great stop. Where the locals seem to eat for breakfast.

Food is ok. I disagree with earlier review about price, it is a little light for the money. We ate lunch, maybe dinner is a better deal? Homestyle cooking was hit or miss, some items were good, some seemed like standard institutional heat and serve. Breakfast items were done well.

The delicious food and friendly service more than make up for the modestly decorated dining room. It's the kind of place where the servers call you "Baby" and there are at least three or more kinds of pie on rotation. On a Thursday, they had roast beef as one of the specials which did not disappoint, covered in brown gravy, accompanied with my selection of mashed potatoes and fried okra. Everything was seasoned well, like eating at your grandma's house.

WOW!!! Stopped here while passing through looking for "real food". It's was awesome. Great home cooking & prices were unbelievably low. Fed a family of 5 for $33. Would have been that much or more at a fast food joint. If you want authentic home cooking this is a must visit.

Quiet atmosphere, clean, friendly staff, good food

Good home cooked meals, friendly staff, but not the fastest service. Appears to be an old Arby's with barely any renovation to make it into their own place, but still a local something different type of place to eat.

Good southern cooking. Friendly staff and awesome pies. When you pull up you are going to think the place looks like a dump, and it does, but don't let that turn you off. The food more than makes up for the decor.

Good little family economical restaurant, meat portions can be smaller at times

For anyone that doesn't know yet, the owners of Family Traditions Cafe have decided to retire and have closed the restaurant. Don't know if anyone will take it over or maybe open a different one.

The BEST chicken strips ! Hand breaded. The hamburger steak is also amazing. Better then cracker barrel and cheaper too!!

A remodeled fast food store. If you can get past the unmowed yard and the look as if it's possibly closed or the general un-kept-ness, the food is actually decent. But the unclean table we sat down to, the poor bathroom, and one small portion of one meal earned the 3 stars.

I'd give them a five if it wasn't such a hole in the wall with a seriously messed up parking lot. Food very good, attentive and conscientious waitresses, low prices.....and doesn't make you sick 20 minutes later.

Took a chance on this place because we didn't want to eat at a chain restaurant that we can get at home. Glad we did. Great food with very generous portions for the price. Our family of 5 had breakfast for a total of $30 and left stuffed & happy. Fast, friendly service. The kind of place that has "regulars" who are on a first-name basis with the staff. Highly recommended!

Love this place. Don't judge by the outside, the food and prices are amazing!

The food is excellent and portions are very generous! The service was top notch. There is live music on Friday nights. The only thing I would change would be in regard to the music. Keep it but not as loud. It was difficult to have conversation. We came as a group and all in our group want to return soon!

We ate here once in the past. Was good food at a good price and decent service. That is definitely NOT the case now. We sat down and placed our orders at 11:45am. Drinks made it to the table promptly. 45 minutes later the waitress showed back up to tell us the dish my son ordered was out and he'd have to order something else. At 12:50 (1hr5min later)when all the orders finally made it out (our 6 person parties orders trickled out over 15 min) EVERYTHING was incorrect. Sides missing, hamburger steaks bleeding, orders just WRONG. At check out we told the owner (lady)we had been shorted portions of our orders. She simply apologized and stated they were understaffed. We were billed for meat + 3 which was actually a meat and one side etc. This was a HORRIBLE experience and their was NO effort to make it right by the owner. and I would not recommend patronizing this restaurant.

A pleasant surprise! Outstanding food good service. Don't let the location or decor scare you! This well worth a try. Price is very reasonable, location off just off 40, easy in and out, definitely recommended!

Great food, love the roast beef and corn nuggets. The chicken and dumplings on tuesdays are top notch. Recommend highly.

The service and food are horrible. First of all, let me tell you about the service. As soon as we sat down, it took a server 20 minutes to even take our drink order. Then, it took her another 30 minutes to even bring us our drinks and take our food order. It took them 2 hours to bring us our food. Keep in mind, there were no other customers besides us. Second, let me tell you about the food. The food tasted like it just came out of the microwave a few minutes ago. It was cold by the time it came to us and was very disgusting. They didn't give us very much to eat and charged us way too much for it. We went in around 5 pm and didn't come out until 7:30 pm. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Loved this restaurant.Stopped in Cookeville, Tennessee for lunch before heading to the airport. The food was very good, wait staff very pleasant. Would recommend stopping here if You around.

When we pulled in the parking lot I wasnt to sure about the place. I'm very glad we went in though. Everything was very clean and the service was great. Food was excellent and extremely cheap! If we are ever in tbe area again we will definitely be back!

Affordable home cooked type meals whole family can enjoy within budget

Too bad we showed up on the last day of business! What a great secret! This was a homemade meal in an area full of national chains. I was sorry to hear that It was closing!

Awesome food and great prices! My family stopped here on a road trip and all five of us loved our food! You can definitely tell that the majority of their business comes from locals, but don't let that scare you off. Our waitress was sweet and took care of everything we needed quickly and with a smile. We will definitely be stopping back by next time we are in the area!

Very good meat and three. Good solid home cooking. Go Thursday for the homemade salisbury steak. It is fantastic. Never had a less than great meal there. The staff is very nice and helpful. The place is often full of police and firemen. If you want to know the best place to eat in town that is what you look for.
